report

So I'm finally back in Penang, and the first thing that I saw when I stepped off the bus, was an accident involving 3 cars. It happened right in front of where I was standing. Of course, nobody died, which is a pity, because they should have been sent straight to the Pearly Gates(or the gates of hell) for the way they were driving. Below is a simple lab(whatever) report of the incident.

Experiment XX :- An analysis of the small accident that happened in front of the Sungai Nibong bus terminal.

OBJECTIVE :- To study the accident in a detailed way

INTRODUCTION :- Accidents occur everyday........zzzzzzzz

APPARATUS :-
Car A = Ssangyong Rexton
Car B = Proton Waja
Car C = Proton Iswara
Car D = Perodua Myvi

PROCEDURE :-
1) Car A is moving on the right lane. Car A nearly misses the entrance to the bus terminal on the left. As a result, Car A brakes. The speed in kp/h of Car A is recorded.

2) Car B is moving along the same right lane. Car A makes the turn into the terminal just as Car B brakes. The speed in kp/h of Car B is recorded.

3) Car C is moving along the same right lane. Car C brakes. The speed in kp/h of Car C is recorded.

4) Car D is moving along the same right lane. Car D brakes. The speed in kp/h of Car D as it hits Car C is recorded.

RESULTS

Speed of Car A before it turns into terminal = 0 kp/h
Speed of Car B as it brakes behind Car A = 0 kp/h
Speed of Car C as it brakes behind Car B = 0 kp/h
Speed of Car D as it brakes, skids and hit Car C = approx. 10kp/h

DISCUSSION

Because Car D is not equipped with anti-lock brakes and the driver was found out to be on the phone, the late hard braking resulted in the brakes being locked up and the car skidded forward to hit Car C which was stationary.

As Car C did not fully apply the brakes while stationary, the impact of Car D on Car C sent Car C moving forward into Car B. While this was happening, Car A finally made the turn into the bus terminal.

It was observed that the driver of Car A was an old man who shouldn't have stopped on the right lane before turning left for he was lucky he was not hit by any of the cars or even worse, a bus which could easily grant him a passport straight to motoring hell for breaking one of the most important yet overlooked motoring law in the universe which is stated that the right lane is for fast and overtaking vehicles........and not for braking in the middle of it.

It was also observed that 3 very confused drivers started blaming each other while their cars were still on the right lane of the road, resulting in a slight congestion. The time was also recorded as this was happening and it was observed that the 3 drives were still discussing something inaudible after 15 minutes.

It was also observed that a group of taxi drivers were happily laughing and discussing about the accident.

CONCLUSION
An accident CAN still occur at 0 kp/h. Amazing isn't it?
(MOST) Malaysian drivers are still just as good in driving as a penguin is trying to fly.
Malaysian drivers tend to hold themselves in high esteem when they see an accident. Case in point, the taxi drivers. These are the same people that can be seen slowing down on accident sites to analyze the damage, only to have a smirk on his face as he realises that none of his 10 accidents before this involved damage as bad as the one he's just seen. Asshole.

PRECAUTION
- Stand as far as possible from the road as who knows, the accident might have happened at the exact spot that I was standing.

- Follow the 5 meter rule when following another car to avoid brake lock ups.

- Never tail any SUVs, MPVs, 4-wheel drives, or whatever. It was discovered that a huge percentage of these vehicles are driven by aging, old, blind men who have the reactions of a stone, who are also being nagged at by their mahjong-loving wives while at the same time being distracted by his infant children who are screaming and watching Barney on the in-car VCD player, all this while regretting that he didn't tie them up and send them on a one way trip to the orphans' home.
