Someone once told me that the food in Kuala Lumpur sucked ass and that it was no where near as good(or perfect) as the food from Penang. Having lived in Penang for over 20 years, I couldn't really tell if a particular food here is good or bad for the fact that I didn't have food from any other place to compare with and also the fact that food all over Penang is good. Oh wait...my mistake...I meant food all over Penang is VERY good.
Now having lived and sampling food around KL for a year, I have come to this conclusion...that the food in KL is just slightly below, if not, on par with Penang food. No I'm not joking so stop laughing fags. However, the price here is enough to make you think twice about having double helpings(as I usually do...not that you can't tell from my size). The prices are a turn off really. Real potong stim. Plus it doesn't help the cause knowing that you paid RM3.50 for "wantan mee" which didn't come with any "wantan" or RM3.00 for a fried rice which is..ermm...literally...fried rice. Only rice and egg. No chicken, no pork, no whatever. Wtf right?
However all is not that bad because food in KL is really unique. Well, to a Penangite anyways. There's this stall selling Butter Pork Chop Rice in Jalan Genting Klang and man, this stuff is so good it'll blow your tastebuds away. The name of the dish is not exactly something which will induce fits of food orgasms but then hey, I've only got 3 years to stay in KL...no regrets..just try.
Now I know it looks a little creamy but that's the best part. The sauce is like melt-in-your-mouth goodness. The creamy rich texture of the sauce is so good that I could have wetted my pants from the indescribable feelings I had each time I ate this(10 bucks says you'd wet your pants too if you'd try it...game enough?). So there we have lightly fried crispy pork chop with a sauce made up of a little butter, milk, spiced up with green chillis and garnished with curry leaves. I've absolutely fallen in love with this dish and I make it a point to eat it at least once a week or so.
There is also this other stall somewhere within the vicinity that sells Thai Fried Rice. I think everyone here has more or less eaten something along the lines of rice fried Thai style. "So what so special bout this one lah?" I hear u ask? Nothing...really...except that the flavour of this Thai Fried Rice will grab you by the balls and you'd be hooked to this dish immediately. No shit. This has gotta be one of the best Thai Fried Rice I've ever had. Not to mention the amount of rice that they fry for you when you order a large plate.
"Wah...like mountain" a friend exclaimed.
"WTF?"
No really...the amount is quite a lot...considering you're paying 4 bucks for this dish. But I must warn you. This dish taste as close to horse shit as ever when it is cold. I made the mistake of "tapao-ing" this dish back for supper the other day. So within the 5 hours it was just sitting there, some kind of funny reaction must have taken place and I was eating horse shit...literally...I'm serious...tidak ber-joking-kan.
Eat it while it's hot. You have been warned.
There're plenty of other unique and tasty food in KL which I will take photos of and post up here later. So if anytime you're in KL and within the area where I'm living, call me up and I'll bring you guys to check the above food out. You'd love it. Cos if u don't I'd kick you in your nuts. Peace.
